Even bigger one next year': Twitch's CEO just dropped a massive GTA 6 update

Grand Theft Auto 6‘s release is just around the corner, and millions of gamers are itching to explore Vice City again. However, when GTA 6 launches on Nov. 19, 2026, only story mode will be available on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. While this will certainly be enough to start, many players will want to hop into GTA Online after they complete the story.

Twitch CEO Confirms GTA Online Is Arriving Next Year

In a recent interview with Bloomberg, Clancy discussed GTA 6 and Rockstar’s plans for the game, including how content creators will engage with it. The CEO stated that Twitch has talked significantly with Rockstar about this, so it appears as though he has some in-depth knowledge about the plans for the present and future of GTA 6.

This is quite interesting, as Clancy mentioned GTA Online, or GTA 6 “multiplayer,” and when he expects the mode to launch.

“We spent a lot of time talking with Rockstar about their plans, and also helping them think about how they can engage our creators. You are going to see this big bump with GTA 6, but then an even bigger one next year when they launch multiplayer.”

So, according to Clancy, GTA Online is set to launch sometime in 2027. It’s unclear whether the Twitch CEO knew this for a fact or was speaking presumptively, but his in-depth talks with Rockstar lend credence to his statements.

GTA Online launching in 2027 comes as little surprise, however, as this has been the expectation ever since the current release date for GTA 6 was officially confirmed. With the game releasing in mid-November, it would be quite shocking to see Rockstar throwing GTA Online into the mix before 2026 concludes. While the online mode launched in GTA 5 just two weeks after its release date, GTA 6 is an entirely different beast, and Rockstar now knows exactly how crucial Online is to the long-term success of the game.

Of course, Clancy didn’t say exactly when in 2027 he expects GTA Online to become available. It could arrive as early as January, but Rockstar likely won’t wait too long into 2027, as there’s only so much players can engage with in GTA 6’s story mode before they’re ready for something new.
