The latest season of the actual play series Dimension 20 has been announced. The streaming platform Dropout has dropped the trailer for Dimension 20:Toylight, a new season of adventure, dice rolls, and comedy centered on a group of children's toys.
The Dimension 20: Toylight Announcement
Dimension 20: Toylight will debut on Dropout on September 16 and will span six episodes released every Wednesday. Brennan Lee Mulligan will be the host and Game Master, and the Intrepid Heroes will include Dimension 20 mainstays Zac Oyama, Ally Beardsley, Lou Wilson, Siobhan Thompson, Brian Murphy, and Emily Axford.
As with every prior season, Dimension 20: Toylight takes place in an original setting with at least one major high concept. The last season,City Council of Darkness, blended the gothpunk atmosphere of Vampire: The Masquerade with the offbeat small-town absurdity of Parks and Rec. Gladlands was set in a post-apocalyptic hellscape straight out of Mad Max, but where everyone is surprisingly wholesome and mindful.
This new season is no different. As the trailer explains, the players are sentient toys tasked by a little boy to protect his little sister. That little sister is in the hospital with a terminal illness. Specifically, those toys must defend the titular Toylight, the last vestiges of the sister's imagination, from an encroaching enemy force.
Notably, Dimension 20: Toylight will be using Dungeons & Dragons as its system to tell this tale. This is a return to the norm for Dimension 20 since last season used Vampire: The Masquerade V5 to explore the antics of the coterie at the heart of City Council of Darkness. The other notable departure was Never Stop Blowing Up, an absurdist parody of 1980s action movies that used a modified version of Kids on Bikes.
It is unclear at this time which exact version of Dungeons & Dragons will be used. Prior seasons have used the Fifth Edition ruleset introduced in 2014. But another Brenna Lee Mulligan-led tale, Critical Role Campaign 4, uses the updated 5.5 Edition rules from 2024. The only way to know for sure is to tune in.
